Sam was born on January 29, 1935, in Paxos, Greece, to Andrew & Eleni (Kankas) Polymeris. When he was 19 years old, Sam enlisted in the Merchant Marines and boarded a ship that took him around the globe three times before he was able to disembark in San Francisco at the age of 21 and become a US Citizen. He would eventually relocate to Chicago Heights, IL, where he began working at various factories. While he was working at Weber Castillo, he met the love of his life, Donna Johnson. The two would unite in marriage on September 27, 1969, in Steger, IL at St. Laborious Church. He left Weber Castillo and began working at DeSoto Chemical for 25 years and would change jobs one last time to work at Acme Steel for eight years before he retired. In his free time, Sam enjoyed reading his bible and geographical books, and at the age of 50 he began learning how to play the classical guitar. Sam was a man who was proud of where he came from, and whenever he could travel back to Paxos he would. He was also a loyal member of his church where he was known for his beautiful voice and cantor skills; a talent that goes back three generations in his family. However, what Sam loved the most was his family; being with his children, grandchildren and great-grandchild gave him so much joy.

Sam is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Donna; sons, Andrew & Nicholas Polymeris both of Bridgman; grandchildren, Haley (David) Mikel of St. Joseph and Sammuel Polymeris of Bridgman; and great-grandson, Brody D. Mikel. He was preceded in death by his parents, Andrew & Eleni; three sisters; and three brothers.
