Sharon's Obituary

Sharon Lee (Cole) Shank, 80, of Decatur, passed away peacefully at her home surrounded by her family, on Friday, October 15, 2021.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Sunday, October 24, 2021, from 1:00PM until 3:00PM at the Decatur VFW, 560 N. Phelps St. with Pastor Katie Hartwell officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Sharon’s name may be made to the VFW National Home for Children, 3575 S. Waverly Rd, Eaton Raids, MI 48827, or the VFW Post 6248 Auxiliary 560, N Phelps St. Decatur, MI 49045. Those wishing to leave an online condolence may do so at www.newellchapel.com.

Sharon was born September 6, 1941, in Paw Paw, to the late Maurice and Jean (Mott) Cole. She graduated from Decatur High School in 1960, a very tight knit class, that even to this day that have still stayed in touch. Sharon always referred to them with fondness as “the kids!” She graduated as a license beautician, which she maintained her license until her passing. On September 1, 1995, she married Cecil Shank. Sharon was a life member of the VFW post 6248 Auxiliary and was chairman of the VFW National home for children and the Buddy Poppy Program. She was a school bus driver for Decatur Public Schools for many years and was known as “Witchy Wickett”. Sharon then went on to work for Upjohn for 25 years before her retirement. Most of all she loved her family and friends and will be greatly missed.

Sharon leaves behind a wealth of family starting with her children, Deborah Wickett-Chandler and Michael (Marisol) Wickett; grandchildren, Kevin (Jennifer) West, Sarah (Josh) Docekal, Steven West, Brandon Wickett, Samantha Wickett, Andre Wickett and Hector Oliveras; great-grandchildren, Landen Swetz, Colten and Olivia Docekal, Brayden, Finlee and J.J. West, Jacob Greenwood and Emma (Taylor) Rundle; great-great-grandkids, Kinsley and Axel Rundle; and sister, Patricia (Cole) Cray; and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and husband, Cecil “Sony” Shank.
