Herbert's Obituary

Herbert Norman Milnikel, 90, went home to be with his Lord and Savior November 24, 2021 with his family around him.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 2:30 PM, Saturday, December 4th, 2021 at The Chapel, 4250 Washington Ave, officiated by Rev. Philip Bubar. Friends may visit from 1:30 - 2:30 at The Chapel. Friends wishing to leave a condolence may do so at www.starks-menchinger.com. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Herb’s home church, The Chapel, St Joseph.

Herb was born and raised in St. Joseph. He served his country in the United States Air Force during the Korean War. On November 28, 1953, he married Eleanor Klug at Trinity Lutheran Church in St. Joseph.
He was employed as a carpenter for Pearson Construction. One of the projects he was involved in was an addition to the St Joseph High School in the 1960’s. He also worked at the DC Cook Plant building the first Nuclear Reactor. He worked at Memorial Hospital in several capacities including carpenter and safety and security before retiring in 1991.

He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Eleanor; two daughters, Beth (Kevin) VanAntwerp of Fort Mill, SC, and Sheryl (Ed) Paloucek of St Joseph; daughter-in-law, Sue (Larry) Engler of St Joseph; six grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great-grandchild; one sister, Norma (Bob) Lutzinger, of Brentwood, TN and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded by his son, Steve in 1977; one grandson, Steve II in 2000; sisters, Ruth and Laraine; brothers, Eugene, Alfred, and Edgar and his parents, Paul and Natalie.

Herb was a man who loved his family and loved his Lord and knew Him well. Anyone who knew Herb would know that he was convinced that heaven is his home!

The family wishes to express our heartfelt thanks to special caregivers Liz and Jennifer at Caretel, and Lori and her caring staff at Powell House.
