Darrell was born on May 25, 1945, in Dowagiac, to Alfred & Ruth (DeGraff) Handy. She graduated from Dowagiac High School in 1963 and shortly after she married Charles Brooks on July 6, 1963 at Holy Maternity Catholic Church. Together the two had four wonderful children whom they loved more than anything. Darrell was so generous, although she didn’t have much, she would always donate whatever she could to various charities and churches. What she loved the most in life was watching her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren at their sporting or school events; they always knew their biggest fan was in the crowd cheering them on. She was also a proud member of Holy Maternity Catholic Church.

Darrell is survived by her children, Toby (Tammy) Brooks of Dowagiac, Casie (Mark) Smith of Dowagiac, and Carie (Rob) Richcreek of Hartford; eight grandchildren; and ten great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, Alfred and Ruth; daughter, Kelly Brooks; and brother, Denny Handy.
