Michael Richard Benton, 76, of Union Pier, MI passed away in his home on Friday – April 26, 2024. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Sommerfeld Chapel – 15 N. Barton St., New Buffalo, MI.
Michael was born on May 21, 1947 in Moberly, MO, to the late Kadum Whitfield and Lila Benton.
Michael is survived by his wife Vanessa, whom he married on ------------ ; children – Tremayne Carter, Theron Carter, Joseph Givens, Ronte’ Smothers, Vanette Smothers and Terrance Burt-Smothers; 30 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; brothers – Raymond (Marilyn) Benton and Ronnie Perry; sisters – Sharon Villa, Viola Roberts, Barbara Calhoun, Pamela (Terrell) Matthews, Eyvonne Whitfield and Emily Stevenson. He is preceded in death by his parents Kadum and Lila, daughter – Joanne Roberts, and brothers – Frank and Danny Thomas.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Saturday, May 4, 1:00pm (CDT), at the Living Way Church – 2410 Duneland Beach Dr., Michigan City, IN, with Pastor Vic Prietto officiating. Visitation precedes the service from 12:00-1:00pm (CDT) at the church.
